Using dashboard templates

Dashboard templates provide predefined layouts that you can reuse when you create new dashboards.

Templates help you maintain a consistent design across dashboards, streamline dashboard creation, and support standardized monitoring practices. You can use the templates that are provided with the product or create templates from your own dashboards.

Types of templates

Built-in templates offer layouts for common monitoring scenarios, while user-defined templates convert your existing dashboards into reusable templates for your teams or projects.

Creating a user-defined template

You can create a template from any existing dashboard by exporting and modifying its configuration:

  1. Select the dashboard that you want to convert into a template. Make any required changes before you export the dashboard because templates cannot be edited after they are imported.
  2. From the overflow menu Open and close the list of options. of the dashboard, select Export to export the dashboard as a JSON file.
  3. Edit the exported file and change the dashboard type field to TEMPLATE. Editing other fields in the JSON file is not supported and can cause the dashboard to function incorrectly.
  4. (Optional) Update the dashboard ID if you want the template to maintain a persistent identifier.
  5. Click Import Import and select the modified file to add it as a template in Decision Insights.

Using templates

Templates make it easier to build new dashboards with consistent structure and layout. When you create a new dashboard, select a template to apply its predefined arrangement and components. Standardizing layouts across teams improves usability and reduces the time that is required to build dashboards from scratch.
