Defining thresholds

Add thresholds to period KPI charts to evaluate KPI values against reference points and support alert conditions.

Before you begin

You must have a dashboard that includes at least one period KPI chart.

About this task

Thresholds allow you to compare period KPI values against a reference value that indicates whether a KPI meets or misses an expected condition. Thresholds are defined at the chart level and apply only to the period KPI chart where they are configured. You can add multiple thresholds to the same chart to track different evaluation points. Thresholds can exist without alerts or targets, and they are required if you want to set alerts.

Thresholds are available only for period KPI charts. Metric charts, text visualizations, and tables do not support thresholds.

Procedure

  1. Open the dashboard that contains the period KPI chart.
  2. From the chart’s overflow menu Open and close the list of options., select Edit.
  3. Click the Thresholds tab.
  4. Click the Add icon icon to add a threshold.
  5. Enter a name and numeric value for the threshold.
  6. Click Done, and then save the chart and the dashboard.

Results

The threshold appears on the chart as a reference value for interpreting the period KPI. If alerts are configured, the threshold determines when alert conditions are triggered. When you change a threshold, only future evaluations use the updated value. The previous alert results are not recalculated.
