Setting up IBM Db2 CI/CD Expert for z/OS

Before you start using Db2® CI/CD Expert to manage continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) of Db2 object changes, you must first set up the foundational infrastructure in the product. This setup ensures that your development and deployment processes are secure, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards.

The setup tasks you need depend on whether your focus is on CI or CD, or both. To determine which components and configurations are required for your use case, review the CI workflow and CD workflow diagrams described in the previous chapter. These workflows illustrate how setup items are connected and provide a recommended sequence for configuration, helping you understand what to configure first and how each step fits into the overall CI/CD process.

This chapter provides detailed procedures for setting up the foundational infrastructure, including:

  • Setting up proxy users that are required to register and access remote sysplexes and their subsystems
    Note:

Proxy users must be configured first to set up deployment environments on remote Db2 for z/OS subsystems. These proxy users facilitate secure communication between the Unified Management Server and remote sysplexes.

  • Creating teams and assigning users to appropriate roles
  • Registering Db2 for z/OS subsystems in Db2 CI/CD Expert
  • Creating provisioning environments for development and testing of Db2 object changes on isolated application instances
  • Creating deployment environments for controlled deployment of validated Db2 object definitions across environments
Important:

IBM recommends installing release 1.1.0.1 (UO05310) or later over Db2 CI/CD Expert release 1.1.0.0. For optimal stability, compatibility, and feature support, IBM further recommends that you apply the latest available Db2 CI/CD Expert release before configuring or using it.
