Installing and configuring DBB

IBM Dependency Based Build is made up of the following components:

• A z/OS-based toolkit, which is an SMP/E installable component
• A web application, often referred to as the DBB server
• Sample scripts, which are packaged as a .tar.gz file

You must install both the DBB toolkit and the DBB server, in any order you prefer, to perform a full verification. For more information, see Installing and configuring the DBB toolkit on z/OS and Installing and configuring the DBB server. To upgrade the DBB server from a previous release, see Migrating the DBB server.

To use DBB with Git, install Git from Rocket Software to handle the conversion between ASCII and EBCDIC character encodings. For how to install Git, see Prerequisites and Setting up Git on USS. In addition to being a stand-alone product, DBB is also available as a component of multiple products. The DBB toolkit is included in IBM Developer for z/OS Enterprise Edition and IBM Wazi Developer for Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces.

• For configuration instructions, you can refer to their respective documentation in IBM Documentation. Alternatively, you can use Host Configuration Assistant for Z Development (HCA) to generate a customized configuration checklist. HCA is a free web-based wizard that is designed to simplify planning and configuring of Z development products.
