Process Admin Console

Use the Process Admin Console to administer workflow servers, their installed process snapshots, and running process instances. You can also manage default user groups and their membership.

Important: The tools and the functions that are available in your cloud subscription are based on the functionality in the equivalent on premise product. The topics that are linked to here are in the documentation for the on-premise product.
Note: To help you troubleshoot server instance related issues, you can choose to launch the Process Admin Console on a specific application cluster member in the Cloud portal by clicking the launch option action attached to the tool. This is only available for the Workflow capability.

Authorization

Depending on how your subscription is set up and the capabilities that are available, you need one or more of the following roles:
  • Business automations capabilities
    • Administer workflow automation services, servers, and security: Workflow Administrators role
  • Workflow capabilities
    • Administer process applications, servers, and users: Process App Creators or Process Administrators role
    • Identify performance issues with processes and services by starting performance monitoring to: Performance Monitor Starters role. Performance monitoring must also be started on the workflow server in the environment you want to monitor.
    • Manage BPEL process instances: Operator role.
If you experience authorization issues, contact your account administrator.

Monitor and manage the health of a workflow server

You can monitor and manage the health of your workflow server by using the tools that are provided by the Process Admin Console.

Manage snapshots (versions) on a workflow server

You can see a list of process application snapshots that are installed on the workflow server and the number of instances of each snapshot that are currently running by using the options on the Installed Apps page. From the list you can configure runtime settings for the snapshot, such as the environment variables. For more information, see Managing installed snapshots.

Manage process instances

The Server Admin page shows the process applications that are installed on the workflow server and a status summary for all the process instances. To see the instances, click the corresponding status value or go to the Process Inspector page. Here you can view the task, activity, and data details of one or more process instances. The details panel includes the actions that you can take to manage the instance, task, or activity. For more information, see Administering processes with Process Inspector.
In addition, you can also manage process instances, tasks, and services, by using tools on the Server Admin page.
  • Troubleshoot processes that run automatically (through an undercover agent, for example) but fail to start by using the Event Manager. For more information, see Maintaining and monitoring Business Automation Workflow Event Manager.
  • Identify process applications that have bottlenecks, drill into the process application to identify the steps that are expensive, and learn how long it takes to run services by using the performance data available in the Monitoring > Process Monitor page. For more information, see Monitoring processes and services.
  • Identify potential performance issues with process applications by monitoring the usage of resources such as CPU, heap, JDBC connections, and thread pools. For more information, see Identifying resource issues.

Manage default user groups

You can manage the membership of some default user groups, such as tw_admins, only from the Process Admin Console. To add or remove group members, complete the following steps:
  1. In the Server Admin area of the Process Admin Console, click the indicator next to User Management to list the available management options, and select Group Management.
  2. In the Group Management window, enter a partial or complete group name in the Select Group to Modify field.
  3. From the list of groups displayed, click the group that you want to update.
  4. Select the action you want to take on the group.
