Decision services

Decision Server provides tools for designing, developing, and deploying decision services. Rule Designer is an Eclipse-based development environment in which you can develop and integrate decision services. Rule Execution Server provides the runtime environment for running and monitoring decision services.

The following diagram illustrates the different tools that you use to develop and deploy a decision service as a RuleApp, and the tasks you must do for this development.

Illustration: Decision services based on Java or XML

Work on a decision service starts in Rule Designer, where developers create the language for expressing rules, and projects for decision services. The developers deploy decision services to the execution server for testing, but they can also integrate a decision service with an application. When a decision service is ready for collaborative development with business users, it is published to Decision Center. Changes made in Decision Center can be synchronized with Rule Designer.
