If you create a taxonomy from a dictionary, any changes in the
dictionary take place without affecting the taxonomy and vice versa. If you
want the changes in the dictionary also reflected in the taxonomy, you must
synchronize the dictionary with the taxonomy.
Typically, terms are deleted or added in the dictionary. By synchronizing
the dictionary with the taxonomy, these changes are automatically reflected
in the taxonomy. You can open the Synchronize Dictionary with Taxonomy wizard
by clicking the
Synchronize Taxonomy with Dictionary icon
in the Unassigned Entries section in the Taxonomy editor. This icon is only
available, if the taxonomy is created from a dictionary.
The Synchronize
Dictionary with Taxonomy wizard provides the following pages:
Select Dictionary
On this page, you can select the
dictionary to be synchronized with the taxonomy. The dictionary from which
the taxonomy is created is preselected. By navigating the tree, you can select
a different dictionary.
It is not recommended to use a
different dictionary than the dictionary that is the import source for the
taxonomy, because the IDs of the terms are not compatible. However, if you
changed the name of the import dictionary, you can select it on this page.
Synchronize Dictionary with Taxonomy
On this page,
you can select one of the following options to synchronize the dictionary
with the taxonomy:
- Revert to dictionary
- This option removes the terms from the taxonomy that are not in the dictionary
and it adds the new terms in the dictionary to the taxonomy.
After the
synchronization, the terms in the dictionary are identical to the terms in
the taxonomy. The dictionary is not changed.
- Update taxonomy
- This option adds new terms in the dictionary to the taxonomy.
After
the synchronization, new terms in the dictionary are added to the taxonomy.
The dictionary is not changed.
- Update taxonomy and dictionary
- This option adds new terms in the dictionary to the taxonomy and new terms
in the taxonomy to the dictionary.
After the synchronization, the dictionary
and the taxonomy contain the same terms. The dictionary and the taxonomy are
updated.
