Description

IBM InfoSphere Federation Server offers access to many relational and nonrelational data sources. For information on the product capabilities, see the Federated systems overview.

System requirements

For information about hardware and software compatibility, refer to the Hardware and software requirements for IBM InfoSphere Federation Server.

New in this Fix Pack

Automatic attribute configuration for DRDA® wrappers
The following server options for the DRDA wrapper are automatically configured based on the configuration of your data source:
  • DATE_COMPAT
  • NUMBER_COMPAT
  • SAME_DECFLT_ROUNDING
  • VARCHAR2_COMPAT
See Registering server definitions for DB2® data sources.
Support for creating nicknames for aliases on DB2 for i/OS and z/OS®
You can create nicknames for aliases of a table or view when using the DRDA wrapper to access DB2 for z/OS or DB2 for i/OS. See Registering nicknames for DB2 tables and views.
High availability feature
Federation now supports high availability disaster recovery (HADR). A HADR database can act as federated database, and if data source is DB2 Database for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, the HADR database can act as data source database. See High availability for federation.
Support for public user mappings
You can create user mappings for PUBLIC to allow all valid database users to access a data source through a single user ID and password. See Public user mappings.
Supported data sources
Federation adds support for Teradata database Version 13, DataDirect Connect for ODBC Version 6, and Oracle Database 11gR2 tolerance. See Supported data sources.
Support for Linux on x86-32
Federation support for Linux on x86-32 includes:
  • A developer edition for development and testing.

You need to purchase the DB2 Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) developer license separately. You can install a trial ESE version only with the InfoSphere Federation Server installation image.

  • A trial edition for evaluation.

Known problems

DataDirect Connect 6.0 restriction

A restriction with DataDirect Connect 6.0 for ODBC impacts the Microsoft SQL Server wrapper. When specifying a versioned procedure name (for example: "MyProcedure;1") to a call to SQLProcedureColumns with DataDirect Connect for ODBC 6.0 to Microsoft SQL Server 2008, no rows are returned. The Microsoft SQL Server wrapper cannot use DataDirect Connect 6.0 for ODBC to federate Microsoft SQL Server 2008 stored procedures that have parameters.

Workaround: You need to use DataDirect Connect 5.3 for ODBC instead.

Other known problems might be documented in the form of individual technotes in the Support knowledge base at www.ibm.com/software/data/integration/support/federation_server. As problems are discovered and resolved, the IBM Support team updates the knowledge base. By searching the knowledge base, you can quickly find workarounds or solutions to problems.
