DB2 Version 9.7 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows

IBM Homogeneous Replication Feature

The IBM® Homogeneous Replication Feature for DB2® Enterprise Server Edition provides high speed queue-based replication services to distribute, consolidate, and synchronize data in support of live reporting, high availability, and query offload applications.

The IBM Homogeneous Replication Feature enables Q replication, a high-volume, low-latency replication solution that uses WebSphere® MQ message queues to transmit transactions between source and target databases.

As an option for DB2 Enterprise Server Edition and IBM InfoSphere® Warehouse, the feature allows you to copy data on a regular basis to multiple DB2 or IDS remote databases.

Q replication offers several advantages:

Minimum latency
Changes are sent as soon as they are committed at the source and read from the DB2 recovery log.
High-volume throughput
The capture process keeps up with rapid changes at the source, and the multithreaded apply process keeps up with the speed of the communication channel.
Minimum network traffic
Messages are sent using a compact format, and data-sending options allow you to transmit the minimum amount of data.
Asynchronous
The use of message queues allows the apply process to receive transactions without having to connect to the source database or subsystem. If either of the replication programs is stopped, messages remain on queues to be processed whenever the program is ready.
