Upgrading Db2 32-bit servers to 64-bit systems (Windows)

On the Windows operating systems, there are two ways to upgrade your Db2 32-bit server to a Db2 version 12.1 64-bit server.

One way is to upgrade your existing 32-bit server to version 12.1 32-bit server, and then upgrade to version 12.1 64-bit server.

The other way is to upgrade to a new computer where Db2 version 12.1 64-bit database product is installed.

Procedure

To upgrade a pre-Db2 version 12.1 32-bit server to a Db2 version 12.1 64-bit server:

  1. Log on to the Db2 server as a user with Local Administrator authority.
  2. If you have multiples copies of version 11.1, or version 10.5 32-bit server, perform the following actions to have all instances running under one Db2 copy:
    • Update all your instances to run under one version 11.1 or version 10.5 32-bit server copy. You can only update instances of the same version.
    • If you have instances running on multiple pre-Db2 version 12.1 copies of different version, upgrade all instances to the highest release of pre-version 12.1 copies. For example, if you have a version 11.1 and a version 10.5 instance, upgrade your version 10.5 instance to the version 11.1 32-bit server copy.
    • Uninstall all the remaining Db2 server copies except the Db2 server copy where all instances are running. You should have only one version 11.1 32-bit server copy, or version 10.5 32-bit server copy
  3. Install Db2 version 12.1 64-bit database product and select the Work with Existing option on the Install a Product panel. Then in the Work with an existing window, choose the Db2 copy name with the upgrade action.
  4. If you want your applications to access Db2 version 12.1 copy through the default interface, set the Db2 version 12.1 copy as the Db2 default copy .
  5. Upgrade your databases.
  6. If you want to have your instances running on multiples copies of Db2 version 12.1, install additional version 12.1 copies and issue the db2iupdt command to run an instance under a different version 12.1 copy.

What to do next

After upgrading the Db2 server, perform the recommended post-upgrade tasks such as resetting the diagnostic error level, adjusting log space size, and rebinding packages. In addition, verify that the upgrade of your Db2 server was successful.
