Activating the license for the Db2 Connect Application Server Edition

The Db2 Connect Application Server Edition allows you to connect a large number of users to a large number of Db2 z/OS and System i databases from a single application server. You can connect to databases on Db2 host machines by direct access or through one or more Db2 Connect servers.

About this task

The licensing cost for Db2 Connect Application Server Edition is based on the number of Processor Value Units (PVU) of the Application Server. The size of the optional Db2 Connect Server,if used, or the size of the host platforms does not matter.

You must activate a license for the Db2 Connect Application Server Edition on each application server instance that you intend to use.

In Figure 1, the number of users and the number and type of Db2 platforms being accessed does not matter with respect to licensing. You are allowed multiple optional Db2 Connect Servers at no additional software licensing cost. The Db2 Connect Application Server Edition licensing is based on the size of the application server being licensed. For example, if the application server in Figure 1 is 800 PVUs in size, the Db2 Connect Application Server Edition license is charged at 800 PVUs multiplied by the cost of each PVU.

You activate your Db2 Connect Application Server Edition license key by running the Db2 License Management (db2licm) tool.

Procedure

  1. Obtain the licence key for Db2 Connect Application Server Edition that you purchased from IBM by going to the Passport Advantage site.
    Attention:

    To download the Db2® license from Passport Advantage as a customer, follow the steps listed on the Passport Advantage page for customers.

    To download the Db2 license as a business partner, visit the Passport Advantage page for business partners.

  2. Copy your activation key to the \license folder of your IBM Data Server Driver installation on the application server machine: 
    <install path>\IBM DATA SERVER DRIVER\license
    The process is complete. No further registration or activation of the license key is required.
