Configuring federation and data sources

To configure federated systems and data sources, you configure the federated database and server, configure access to data sources, and tune for performance.

Running the wrapper configuration tool
The Federation Server wrapper configuration tool is introduced in Version 10. The configuration tool provides a GUI interface for configuring relational wrappers.
Creating federated objects: Administration Explorer
For the supported Db2® data sources and the Oracle data source, you can use the IBM® Data Studio Administration Explorer to set up a federated server to access data sources on a remote data server.
Creating individual federated objects
You can use the Administration Explorer of IBM Data Studio to create each of the federated objects that are required to set up a federated server to access the supported Db2 data sources and the Oracle data source.
Creating and managing multiple federated objects
After you create federated objects, you can work in the Administration Explorer view of IBM Data Studio to configure and manage individual federated objects or multiple federated objects.
Creating and managing federated objects: SQL and XQuery editor
You can use the Data Studio SQL and XQuery editor to issue and deploy commands to configure access to any data source.
Configuring the federated server
Before you configure data sources, configure the federated server and verify that it is properly set up.
