The IBM Software Product Compatibility Reports (SPCR) pages are a complete source of
hardware requirements, supported operating systems, prerequisites and optional supported software,
with component-level details and operating system restrictions. This topic provides direct links to

Hardware embedded full virtualization and Db2 11.5
Db2®
supports hypervisors fully embedded in hardware and firmware when operating system requirements are
met. Some examples are systems equipped with Power Hypervisor, VMware ESX 3i, or Hitachi Virtage.
Note: Any enhancements in hypervisor function that come in the form of separate software are not
included in the definition of "Hardware Embedded".
Db2 11.5
(non-pureScale) runs on any operating system (OS) that is virtualized by any virtualization
technology. Hypervisors in use must run a supported enterprise OS (For example, KVM with RHEL
Enterprise support. KVM running CentOS is not recommended).
OS virtualization that supports
Db2 11.5 is available
to enterprise-ready and licensed hypervisors that have the write-thru feature enabled.
Note: This
statement does not apply to Db2
pureScale® clusters in
any Db2
releases. For a detailed list of supported virtualization for pureScale, refer to the reports for
each release.
If IBM believes that an issue is specific to a virtualization technology (such
as performance or communication with peripheral and hardware components), IBM might require that the
customer reproduce the issue in a non-virtualized configuration. Due to the nature of virtualization
technologies, IBM cannot guarantee levels of performance that are impacted by a customer’s
virtualized deployment. Similarly, IBM cannot guarantee resolutions to issues that are caused by a
customer’s virtualized deployment.
For system requirements for previous versions of Db2, see the IBM Support page, System requirements for IBM Db2 for Linux, UNIX, and
Windows.
