IBM Database Add-Ins for Visual Studio

Retrieving Data from Tables and Views

You can use the Server Explorer to review the contents of an IBM database table or view. The IBM® Database Add-Ins for Visual Studio query the number of rows that are specified for the Maximum Rows For Preview option in the IBM Database Tools options, and return the results in a grid in the IBM Data Designer.

Note: Some screen readers have problems reading values in the results grid. The Microsoft® Inspect Object screen reader is slow recognizing the cell information. The screen reader JAWS® for Windows does not read the data in the first cell of the last row in the grid.

To retrieve data from a table or view:

  1. In the Server Explorer under your data connection, right-click the table or the database view that you want to retrieve data from, and then click Show Data on the shortcut menu.

The results are displayed in the Result Data section of the Data view in the designer.

  2. To filter the retrieved data:
    1. Expand the Options section of the Data view.
    2. Specify the filter conditions that you want to use.

For detailed information about fields in the Options section, see Data, Designer.

    3. To see the result of the filter options that you specify, click Refresh.
    4. To remove the effects of the filter options from the result data, click Clear, click Yes in response to the prompt message, and then click Refresh.

After you have retrieved the data that you want to see, you can insert, update, refresh, delete, import, or export the data that is displayed in the designer.

For a DB2 database For an IDS database You can review BLOB data in cells of the result data.

For a DB2 database You can also review XML data in cells of the result data.
