Tracking your IBM Db2 licenses using AWS License Manager

You can use the AWS License Manager to track your IBM Db2 licenses. AWS License Manager is owned and managed by Amazon and you can use it to create a self-managed license for your Db2 database instance on RDS.

Before you begin

Procedure

  1. When creating a Db2 database, Select Bring Your Own License Model (BYOL) option from the License drop down menu. Complete the remaining configuration settings and click Create database.
    Note: If you have an existing Db2 database created on Amazon RDS proceed to step 2.
    Your IBM Db2 Database is created on Amazon RDS using the Bring Your Own License Model (BYOL).
  2. Creating a self-managed license using the AWS License Manager:
    1. In the AWS Management Console, click AWS License Manager and select Start using AWS License Manager.
      Note: If you are using AWS License Manager for the first time, it may prompt you to configure some initial settings. For more information, see Getting started with AWS License Manager.
    2. In the AWS License Manager Dashboard, from the left pane select Self-managed licenses.
    3. In the Self-managed licenses window, select Create Self-managed license.
    4. In the Create Self-managed licenses window under the Configuration details section, provide a desired name and description to your self-managed license. Select License type as vCPUs.
      Note: Amazon RDS is only supported for vCPUs.
    5. In the Automated discovery rules - optional section, select IBM Db2 Database as your Product name, your current edition under Product type and click Submit.
    Navigate to the AWS License Manager to view your Self-managed license for Amazon RDS for Db2 is created.
  3. Reporting your Self-managed License:
    1. Navigate to the AWS License Manager dashboard, select Usage reports and click Create usage report.
    2. Provide a name and description for your usage report. From the Self-managed License drop down menu, select your Self-managed License.
    3. Select the frequency for your report to be generated from the Report frequency drop down menu.
      Note: We recommend a report creation frequency for 24 hours.
    Your Usage report is created. Navigate to the Usage reports dashboard to view and download usage reports.
