Planning for Db2 HADR

About this task

The HADR Simulator, Db2 Log Scanner, and HADR Calculator are a set of tools provided to help you estimate, plan, and measure your HADR performance under various conditions.

The HADR Simulator simulates both Db2 HADR and network settings without affecting system performance. The simulator arguments closely match real HADR configuration, using parameters like local host, local port, remote host, remote port, and TCP/IP send socket and recv buffer.

Before you apply your settings to real HADR, you can use the simulator in conjunction with the Db2 Log Scanner and HADR Calculator tools to quantitatively compute HADR performance based on your workload in a simulated environment. This particular section of the documentation is meant to be used for planning before HADR is used. These tools, however, are available for use at any stage of the HADR performance tuning procedure.

The HADR Simulator will simulate both Db2 log writing and log shipping processes so you can perform the following actions:

  • Estimate HADR performance under different sync modes

  • Measure disk performance

  • Measure network performance using HADR specific workload

  • Experiment with hypothetical disk speeds

  • Experiment with various network tuning options
