Migrating to data warehousing in Db2, Version 11.1.x
Data warehousing in Db2 is a suite of products that combines the strength of Db2 with a data warehousing infrastructure. It includes Db2, WebSphere Application Server (WAS), and other applications. Your migration path varies based on what components and at what current level of Db2 you use.
If you are currently using Db2 version 9.7.x, 10.1.x, or 10.5.x you can migrate data warehousing in Db2 directly to version 11.1.x.
If you are currently using Db2, version 9.7.x, or 10.1.x you can migrate data warehousing in Db2 directly to version 10.5.x. If you are migrating from Db2 Version 9.5 or earlier, you need to first migrate to Db2 version 9.7 or version 10.1. Then you can migrate Db2 to version 11.1.x. Now you can migrate data warehousing in Db2 directly to version 11.1.x.
- Migrating to data warehousing in Db2 version 11.1 is the same process as migrating to data warehousing in Db2 version 10.5.
- When migrating to data warehousing in Db2version 11.1, backup and restore Db2 version 10.5 metadata database in order to reuse it.
- If migrating server metadata from data warehousing in Db2 version 10.5 to version 11.1, do not run a migration script (metadbmigrate.sh) to migrate the metadata. This migration script doesn't work in this version. Only a copy of the metadata database is needed. Refer to the following link: Migrating the warehouse server metadata
- If migrating to a different VM, remember to copy the Home directory or Log directory for the application files to the same directory as before.
Before you begin the migration process, first read the overview to understand the supported migration scenarios and the process that you must follow. Next, you can migrate the server metadata and then you can migrate the Db2 client, instance and warehouse projects.
Cubing Services has been deprecated. However, if you already have Cubing Services installed on your system, you can continue to use it when you upgrade your version of data warehousing in Db2 . If Cubing Services is not already installed on your system, then it is not an option as you upgrade. Instead, you can migrate to Cognos® Dynamic Cubes. For more information, see Cognos Dynamic Cubes overview
