Importing spatial data

How you import spatial data into your database depends on the format of the data that is to be imported.

Importing spatial data from a data exchange format
Before you can insert a WKT, WKB, ESRI shape, or GML format of spatial data into a table, you must first use a spatial constructor function to convert that data into a geometry object.
Importing spatial data from a shapefile
You can import spatial data that is stored in a shapefile by transferring the shapefile to your database server and then using a stored procedure to extract and load that data. For example, a map vendor might provide a shapefile containing spatial data about cities, streets, and points of interest that you can import into your database and use.
Importing coordinate spatial data
You can use a spatial constructor function to import a point object by specifying its coordinates directly in an INSERT statement.
Handling invalid spatial geometry data
Invalid spatial geometry data can be loaded into tables if the DB2_GEO_ALLOW_INVALID Db2® registry variable is enabled. The attempted insertion of invalid spatial geometry data is identified with a SQL20397W message. The warning message indicates that you must fix the invalid geometry entries in the table.
