Db2 Autonomics Director overview
Db2® Autonomics Director provides the framework for a comprehensive Db2 autonomics environment. By using Db2 Autonomics Director and other Db2 tools that provide autonomics capabilities, you can automatically detect potential storage, organization, and performance problems, and proactively run maintenance utilities to ensure that your data remains tuned and accessible.
Db2 Autonomics Director supports both a passive or active approach to autonomics. For example, in a passive autonomics environment, you can automatically gather Db2 real-time statistics and information about the results of running Db2 utilities. That data is used as input to identify potential problem situations and to recommend actions that you can take to correct problem situations. Based on your own analysis, you decide whether to follow the recommendations. In an active autonomics environment, utilities are run for you automatically based on a number of factors including the priority of the job, how many tasks are already running, and how much time remains in the maintenance window.
- RTS_SNAPSHOT creates a new snapshot of the current Db2 real-time statistics for a specific database object or objects. You can call this stored procedure before or after a maintenance window.
- Active Autonomics Director Stored Procedure evaluates a list of possible actions, prioritizes the actions, and determines which utilities can be run on which objects considering the amount of time remaining in the maintenance window.
The data that is collected by these stored procedures is stored in a series of Db2 tables that begin with the prefix SYSAUTO.
Db2 Autonomics Director, when used in conjunction with Db2 Autonomic certified tools can save on CPU and free your DBA staff to focus on business critical problems.
