Preparing for SQL DI installation

SQL Data Insights (SQL DI) has specific system requirements. Make sure that you meet all the prerequisites and ready your system environment for SQL DI installation and configuration.

Hardware and software prerequisites

SQL DI requires the following hardware, software, and integrated development tools. If you decide to enable the feature, make sure that you meet all the prerequisites before starting SQL DI installation.

Consider planning the system requirements for both your Db2 system and the SQL DI feature together, particularly if you decide to install the SQL DI feature on the same LPAR where your Db2 runs.

  • IBM® zEnterprise® EC12 or later.

For best performance, consider running SQL DI on the latest models of IBM Z.

  • IBM z/OS® 2.5 or later.

Verify that data set SYS1.SIEALNKE and CEE.SCEERUN2 are APF authorized and accessible by Db2. See the z/OS 3.2, 3.1, or 2.5 program directory for instructions.

  • IBM Z Deep Neural Network Library (zDNN) stack.
The zDNN stack includes the zADE (Z AI Data Embedding) and zAIO (Z AI Optimization) libraries. The libraries enable SQL DI to leverage the AI capabilities of both IBM Z and IBM z/OS. Apply the following z/OS APARs to install the zADE and zAIO support for SQL DI:
    • Apply OA64843 and OA66165 for z/OS 3.1 (HZAI310).
    • Apply OA64842 and OA66166 for z/OS 2.5 (HZAI250).

  • IBM OpenBLAS with the following APARs applied:
    • Apply PH56723 for z/OS 3.1 (HLE77E0)
    • Apply PH49807 and PH50872 for z/OS 2.5 (HTV77C0).
    • Apply PH50881, PH45672, PH44479, and PH46862 for z/OS 2.5 (HLE77D0).

  • z/OS Supervisor with APAR OA62728 applied on z/OS 2.5.

  • IBM Db2 13 for z/OS (5698-DB2 or 5698-DBV).

Apply the following Db2 APARs based on the SQL DI functions that you plan to install and enable. The APARs do not supersede one another. For a specific SQL DI function, install the required Db2 APAR. Follow the ++HOLD instructions to complete the installation and upgrade your SQL DI.

Db2 APAR Supported SQL DI function SQL DI level Db2 app compatibility level z/OS level
PH49781 All SQL DI functions in the initial release 1.1.0 V13R1M500 or higher z/OS 2.5 or later
PH51892 Dynamic election of vector prefetch on source Db2 tables 1.1.0 V13R1M500 or higher z/OS 2.5 or later
    PH55212 AI_COMMONALITY function1 1.1.0 V13R1M504 or higher z/OS 2.5 or later
    PH60870 Model retraining capability2 1.1.1 V13R1M500 or higher z/OS 2.5 or later
PH66267 Use of Db2 secondary authorization IDs for SQL DI object and model management2 1.1.3 V13R1M500 or higher z/OS 2.5 or later
    Notes:
    • 1 This SQL DI function requires that models be trained with the latest zADE updates. The required zADE updates are available on z/OS 2.5 or later.
    • 2 This SQL DI function requires the application of the latest zADE updates. The required zADE updates are available on z/OS 2.5 or later. Consider upgrading your z/OS to 2.5 or later if you need to retrain models of your AI objects.

  • z/OS OpenSSH. See z/OS OpenSSH for instructions.

  • IBM 64-bit SDK for z/OS Java™ Technology Edition Version 8 SR7 FP11 or IBM Semeru Runtime® Certified Edition for z/OS Version 17 FP11.

Browser requirements

SQL DI features a web-based user interface (UI). Make sure that you run the UI with the following standard or desktop version of Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome:

  • Firefox version 54 or higher
  • Chrome version 60 or higher.
