IBM Db2 Administration Foundation for z/OS
As the replacement for IBM Data Studio and IBM Data Server Manager, Db2 Administration Foundation provides Db2 for z/OS database administrators who have minimal z/OS or Db2 experience with a modern, browser-based interface for working with Db2 subsystems and their catalogs.
The interface is built upon the Zowe Virtual Desktop, which is an open source framework that delivers a modern and consistent approach to working with mainframe applications. Db2 Administration Foundation is delivered as a no-cost feature of the IBM Unified Management Server for z/OS.
Db2 Administration Foundation provides the following capabilities:
Database administration
Db2 Administration Foundation includes the fundamental tools that DBAs need to manage Db2 for z/OS effectively and efficiently:
- Easily work with databases across an entire sysplex by using its robust catalog navigation capabilities that enable you to apply complex filtering, reorder columns, and capture SQL.
- Use its search facility to locate the specific database objects and any related objects that you are looking for.
- Edit and run SQL from its integrated SQL editor and SQL processor.
- Issue Db2 commands.
- Add and remove a group of SQL statements to or from a stabilized environment.
SQL analysis and performance optimization
With the addition of IBM Db2 Query Workload Tuner for z/OS, you can analyze and tune individual SQL statements and the SQL statements that comprise a workload to ensure that applications that interact with Db2 for z/OS are always running optimally. The following SQL tuning capabilities of Db2 Query Workload Tuner are integrated into the Db2 Administration Foundation user interface and become enabled after you activate an additional license:
SQL tuning capabilities | SQL tuning capabilities | SQL tuning capabilities |

* This subset of SQL tuning capabilities is available at no cost through the IBM Database Services Expansion Pack component of Db2 Accessories Suite for z/OS.
These capabilities enable you to:
- Tune individual SQL statements or the SQL statements (one or multiple) that comprise an entire workload
- Generate expert recommendations from tuning advisors about statistics, indexes, and query structure
- Capture SQL and workloads from various sources (for example, statement cache, plans, packages, stabilized SQL, and input files)
- View advanced access plan visualization as a graph
- Use wizards to identify tuning opportunities and assess benefits and impact
- Compare SQL performance over time by accessing real-time and historical performance metrics
Query acceleration
Db2 Administration Foundation provides the following support for IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS:
- Query or browse accelerators by using the catalog explorer.
- Manage accelerators:
- Start and stop acceleration and replication
- Trace and save configurations
- Unpair accelerators from a Db2 subsystem
- Monitor system utilization, including data slices, current tasks, finished tasks, and incremental updates
- View replication events
- List tasks
- Manage encryptions
- Manage tables on an accelerator:
- View and add tables
- Load and remove tables to and from the accelerator
- Enable and disable acceleration
- Archive and restore partitions
- Manage accelerated queries:
- View full SQL text
- Capture the query environment and performance data
- View EXPLAIN details
- Use Visual Explain
- Manage federated access:
- Create and remove references
- Grant and revoke access
