EBCDIC

Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code (EBCDIC) is an encoding scheme that is typically used on IBM® zSystems (z/OS®) and iSeries (System i®).

EBCDIC was developed by IBM in 1963.

Certain characters are the same on every EBCDIC code page. Those characters are called invariant characters. Other characters might vary from one code page to the next. These characters are called variant characters.

Some example EBCDIC CCSIDs are 37, 500, and 1047.

The following table shows the code page for EBCDIC CCSID 37.
