Migrate user accounts
The security architecture of IBM® Db2® Data Management Console is entirely different from IBM Data Server Manager, including user authentication and authorization mechanism. IBM Db2 Data Management Console delegates its user authentication and authorization to external security systems. Information of user credentials and privileges will be more secured and centralized when stored and managed in professional security systems.
IBM Db2 Data Management Console can delegate authentication and authorization to two types of security systems. One is your repository database, and the other could be an LDAP server. IBM Db2 Data Management Console will not directly access data in any of your security systems as the data should be protected. Therefore, when you upgrade from IBM Data Manager Server to IBM Db2 Data Management Console, user accounts will NOT be migrated automatically in the process.
You can directly re-configure user authentication and authorization settings through the web page of IBM Db2 Data Management Console. You may choose an appropriate external security system to keep the user names as in IBM Data Server Manager.
To delegate to your repository database, refer to Delegating authentication and authorization to a repository database.
To delegate to an LDAP server, refer to Delegating Authentication and Authorization to LDAP.
To know more user accounts and privileges, see Assigning privileges.
If you want to migrate the user accounts of IBM Data Server Manager to IBM Db2 Data Management Console, you can find some instructions in this task. However, you still have to perform several manual operations. A script which covers part of the migration process is provided for the respective platform.
