Alerting users to HADR-specific issues

You can use IBM® Db2® Data Management Console to enable and customize alerts specific to your HADR configured database connection.

Procedure

  1. Click Administration and select Monitoring profile.
The Monitoring profile page displays. To modify the settings for the existing profile, expand the vendor that matches your database (e.g. Db2), select your monitoring profile and then click Edit.
  2. Enable historical monitoring.
  3. In the Monitoring profile page, click Alerts settings.
  4. Expand the Availability group, and click the check box to activate the HADR-specific alert type that you want to use. These include:
    • HADR database not ready for role switch
    • HADR standby database in replay-only window
    • HADR primary cluster member disconnected
    • HADR primary cluster disconnected
    • HADR standby cluster not ready for role switch
    • HADR database disconnected
    • HADR standby log receiving falling behind log shipping from primary
    • HADR standby cluster member log receiving buffer utilization
    • Log gap between the primary and standby cluster is too big
    • HADR primary cluster member blocked from writing to the log file
    • Standby database log receive buffer full
    • HADR primary database blocked from writing to the log file
    • HADR standby receive replay gap
Once you have your alerts selected, you can configure thresholds for each alert to further refine how and when alerts are displayed.
  5. Hover over the cell that aligns with the alert you want to configure and click Configure alert.
A pop-up box opens, with options for setting thresholds for warning, and critical alert types. For example, the HADR database disconnected alert will display different messages, based on whether the disconnect is from a single standby database (warning), or from all standby databases (critical).
Note: Specific available options may change from one alert to another.
  6. When you have set your alert options, click OK.
  7. Click Save to save your selections to your monitoring profile.
