Defining the On Demand Router as the load balancer group

After you configure the On Demand Router (ODR), you must associate it with a DataPower® service. The association provides the service with the intelligent routing and load balancer capabilities of the On Demand Router. Routing to the application and server where the application is running is based on the URL and the request header information of the request.

Before you begin

The On Demand Router must be configured with at least one ODR connector group. The On Demand Router must be enabled. At least one associated ODR connector group must be enabled.

About this task

This task shows how to associate a DataPower service with the On Demand Router. The service type must support a load balancer group as the static destination.

To associate the On Demand Router with a DataPower service, specify the keyword, ODR-LBG, as the static back end of the service. Depending on the DataPower service, specify ODR-LBG in one of the following fields: Backend URL, Remote Host, or something similar. The syntax differs depending on the field.
  • In the Backend URL field, specify the URL with the hostname and port. For example, specify http://ODR-LBG:80.
  • In the Remote Host field, specify the keyword, ODR-LBG. Any value that is specified in the Remote Port field is ignored.

Procedure

  1. From the services catalog, select the service.
  2. If required for the service type, specify that the service has a static destination.
  3. In the field that defines the static destination, specify ODR-LBG with the appropriate syntax.
  4. Click Apply to save changes to the running configuration.
  5. Click Save to save changes to the persisted configuration.

Results

The service uses the ODR for intelligent routing and load balancing decisions.
