Setting up and connecting IBM Z

Installing Data Gate on Cloud requires a number of installation and configuration steps be performed on IBM Z and on Red Hat® OpenShift®. Additional steps are required to connect these systems.

Certain installation and configuration tasks might be best performed by people in different roles.

The tasks and steps in the following table should be preformed in the order listed in the table for ease of installing and configuring Data Gate on Cloud. However, depending on your environment, some steps might be optional if they are already complete (for example, if the Db2® for z/OS® subsystem is already running with all current maintenance, or if inbound network access to the Db2 for z/OS subsystem is already configured).

Because of the different user roles required and potentially different system environments, consider creating a high-level plan to manage, coordinate, and track all major planning, installation, and configuration activities, using this roadmap as a guide.

Table 1. Data Gate on Cloud planning, installation, and configuration roadmap
Type Task User role
Plan Review the Prerequisites
  • z/OS system administrator or programmer
  • Red Hat OpenShift cluster administrator
  • Red Hat OpenShift instance administrator
  • Data Gate on Cloud administrator
Prepare Configure inbound access to Db2 for z/OS:
  1. Define a secure network port
  2. Configure AT-TLS
z/OS system administrator or network administrator
Prepare Encrypt outbound network access from Db2 for z/OS to the Data Gate on Cloud service:
  1. Create a key ring that includes the CA certificate
  2. Generate and export a key pair and a certificate for Data Gate on Cloud
  3. Configure the Policy Agent on your z/OS client LPARs
Important: Steps 2 and 3 require the Data Gate on Cloud endpoint, port, and IP address of the Data Gate on Cloud instance. If you have not yet completed the AWS setup, you can still configure the Policy Agent with proper planning for the hostname, IP address, and port.
z/OS system administrator or network administrator
Install Installing the Data Gate on Cloud backend on z/OS z/OS system administrator or programmer
Install Installing Db2 for z/OS maintenance to enable Data Gate on Cloud
Important: If you have installed IBM Cloud® for use with the same Db2 for z/OS system, then these PTFs already exist. In this case, skip this step.
z/OS system administrator or Db2 for z/OS installation system operator (Install SYSOPR authority)
Configure Configure Db2 for z/OS to support Data Gate on Cloud:
  1. Set Db2 for z/OS subsystem parameters
  2. Create Db2 for z/OS databases and tables for Data Gate on Cloud
Important: If you have installed IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS for use with the same Db2 for z/OS system, then this database and the required system tables already exist. In this case, skip this step.
  3. Verify the setup of Db2-supplied stored procedures
z/OS system administrator or Db2 for z/OS installation system operator (Install SYSOPR authority)
Configure Create and set up Data Gate on Cloud stored procedures.
Important: If you have installed IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS for use with the same Db2 for z/OS system, you already have the required stored procedures. Besides, you are not allowed to create another set of stored procedures with the same names. Therefore, you need not create an additional WLM environment, and you need not define performance goals. In that case, skip the following steps.
  1. Create a dedicated WLM environment for Data Gate on Cloud stored procedures
  2. Define WLM performance goals for Data Gate on Cloud stored procedures
  3. Create the Data Gate on Cloud stored procedures
z/OS system administrator or programmer
Configure Create Data Gate on Cloud users and grant privileges on Z
  • z/OS system administrator or programmer with Unix service system skills
  • Security administrator
Install and Configure Provisioning a Db2 Warehouse on Cloud instance
  • Red Hat OpenShift instance administrator
  • Db2 Warehouse on Cloud administrator
  • Data Gate on Cloud administrator
Install Deploying on AWS Red Hat OpenShift instance administrator
