This glossary provides terms and definitions for the IBM Daeja ViewONE software and products.

A

angle
An annotation type that is composed of two intersecting lines and the specified degree of space between them.
annotation
An added descriptive comment, note, line, or shape.
annotation data
A representation of an annotation in a form suitable for communication, interpretation, or processing by human or automatic means.
annotation security
One or more settings that define how users can interact with annotations.
applet
A program that performs a specific task and is typically portable between operating systems. Often written in Java, applets can be downloaded from the Internet and run in a web browser.

document
A machine-readable collection of one or more objects that represent a composition, a work, or a collection of data.

E

ECM
See Enterprise Content Management.
Enterprise Content Management (ECM)
The strategies, methods and tools used to capture, manage, store, preserve, and deliver content and documents related to organizational processes. ECM tools and strategies allow the management of an organization's unstructured information, wherever that information exists.
event
An occurrence of significance to a task or system. Events can include completion or failure of an operation, a user action, or the change in state of a process.
event handler
Software that initiates an event response that is configured by the administrator.

F

find result
The results in the search view of the viewer thumbnail pane and in the document-viewing area.

I

image
An electronic representation of an original document or picture that is produced by a scanning device or created from software.
image data
A pattern of bits with 0 and 1 values that define the pixels in an image. A 1 bit is a toned pixel.
image stamp
An overlaid image annotation.

K

key
A column or an ordered collection of columns that is identified in the description of a table, index, or referential constraint. The same column can be part of more than one key.

L

luminance
A simulated light source that shines on a color image to make it clearer to read.

M

module
A piece of software that is provided to enable the viewing of a particular document type or to provide a specific piece of functionality; for example, redaction.

N

note annotation
A text annotation type.

P

pan
To move a display, such as a diagram or map, within a GUI window or pane. The purpose of panning is to control which portion of the diagram or map is visible.
parameter (parm)
A value or reference passed to a function, command, or program that serves as input or controls actions. The value is supplied by a user or by another program or process.
parm
See parameter.
property
A characteristic of an object that describes the object. A property can be changed. Properties describe an object name, type, value, or behavior, among other things.

R

redact
To block the viewing of the data that is displayed in the area under a annotation that is drawn on a document.
redaction
An annotation type that is an opaque mask that is applied to a page so that a selected portion of the page is not visible.
rotation array
A set of angle values that specifies the rotation of each page of the current document.
ruler
A line annotation that displays a calculated length based on the image properties.

S

scale
  1. The number and progression of ticks along a vertical or horizontal axis.
  2. To enlarge an image or marker.
streamer
A module that provides individual pages of a document as required in response to user page selection in the document viewer.

T

token
A syntactic element, such as a phrase, a word, or a set of one or more characters, that is used for analyzing and processing text.

V

value
The content of a variable, parameter, special register, or field.
view
A representation of a document, image, or annotation.
viewer
A piece of client software that is used to produce a graphical display of document or image content that is stored in a file.

W

web application server
The runtime environment for dynamic web applications. A Java EE web application server implements the services of the Java EE standard.

Z

zoom
To progressively increase or decrease the size of a part of an image on a display or window.
