Automatic DS8000 ODD creation
The Copy Services Manager server manages sessions which work with DS8000 Copy Services. When issues occur it may be necessary to not only collect data from the Copy Services Manager server but also the Storage System. This data is necessary for support to be able to analyze the health of the server and systems as well as determine root cause analysis for various issues that may occur.
For the Copy Services Manager server, automatic log packages are already created for certain failures such as, Global Mirror recovery issues, HyperSwap issues, unexpected suspensions, and failed Safeguarded Copy backups. In addition, scheduled tasks can be setup to create a CSM log package in an event that the task had a failure.
For the DS8000 Storage System, customers can manually create On Demand Dumps (ODDs), perform a warmstart or Save UILogs from the Storage System panel on the Copy Services Manager GUI interface.
In addition, to manually creating ODDs for DS8000, certain errors will now trigger the Copy Services Manager server to automatically create DS8000 ODDs for all Storage Systems attached to the session across all sites in the session. These ODDs can then be offloaded by support and used along with the Copy Services Manager log package to provide better first failure data capture in events where time is critical and manual ODD creation often happens too late to aid in the analysis.
The conditions that will lead to the Copy Services Manager server triggering automatic ODDs are the following:
- In the event of an unexpected suspension for Metro Mirror relationships on any session type.
- In the event of an unplanned HyperSwap on z/OS for any sessions with HyperSwap enabled.
- In the event of a failed Recover command for Global Mirror relationships on all session types.
- In the event of a failed Safeguarded Copy backup.
