Interface to the DS8000 storage system times out
This condition can occur when a FlashCopy® fast reverse restore command is issued to a DS8000® storage system.
Problem
The Copy Services Manager interface to the DS8000 storage system might time out during an fast reverse restore command process. The fast reverse restore command process occurs when you issue the Recover command to a Global Mirror session on Copy Services Manager. The timeout can occur when all of the following conditions occur:
- The system is using thin-provisioned volumes in Global Mirror sessions.
- A volume in the session is configured with a large logical size, typically larger than 200 TB.
- A Recover command is issued to a Global Mirror session on Copy Services Manager.
Action
Increase the timeout value of all hardware commands that are issued to a DS8000 storage system. To increase the timeout, set the value for the COMMAND_TIMEOUT_SECONDS property in the essclient.properties file.
If you increase the timeout value for the COMMAND_TIMEOUT_SECONDS property, it is also increased for non-fast reverse restore commands. If non-fast reverse restore command commands are not completed in the timeout interval, Copy Services Manager might take longer to complete commands.
If the condition continues, contact DS8000 support and ask about TIP 07838, which resets the enterprise storage server network interface (ESSNI) on the HMC and CECs.
