Starting a session generates an x0F52 error
This condition occurs when issuing a session Start command.
Problem
You receive the following error when issuing a Start command for a session:
x0F52 The PPRC operation or a channel extender being used for a copy
operation is reporting an error and the command cannot be completed.
The peer-to-peer remote copy (PPRC) operation or a channel
extender that is used for a copy operation is reporting an error and
the command cannot be completed due to one or more of the following
conditions:
- Abnormal conditions at the secondary controller.
- Abnormal conditions related to the secondary device.
- The communications paths between the primary and remote controller are not functioning.
- Communications could not be established with the secondary control unit.
- The maximum amount of paths has been created.
In a z/OS® environment, this error might occur in the following situations:
- Copy Services Manager attempts to create a path from an Fibre Channel Protocol port to a FICON® port or vice versa. To circumvent this problem, find a valid combination of ports using the DSCLI or some other mechanism and use the Copy Services Manager GUI or CLI to manually create the paths for this session using the compatible ports.
- Only a subset of volumes in the logical storage subsystem (LSS) that you want to manage through a z/OS connection are attached to the z/OS. The entire LSS must be attached to z/OS.
Action
After you detect and resolve the source of the problem, reissue the Start command.
