Recovering from disaster scenarios in a Three Site MM / GM Configuration
Scenarios for disaster recovery (or unplanned outages)
describe the steps to recover from the loss of a complete site and
restart operations after a disaster or disruption.
Unplanned outage of local (H1), production move to (H2 MM target)
In this scenario, there was an unplanned outage of the local site (H1), and production must be moved to Site 2 (H2) until Site 1 can be brought back up. Procedures are shown for both the multi-target Metro Mirror - Global Mirror session type as well as the Metro Global Mirror cascaded session type.
Unplanned outage of Site 2 (H2 MM secondary) and return to three-site configuration
In this scenario, an unplanned outage of Site 2 (H2) occurs. Disaster Recovery capability is still required, so a Global Mirror session must be set up between Site 1 (H1) and Site 3 (H3) while Site 2 is down. Procedures are shown for both the multi-target Metro Mirror - Global Mirror session type as well as the Metro Global Mirror cascaded session type.
Unplanned outage of remote (H3 GM secondary)
In this scenario, an unplanned outage occurs on Site 3 (H3). Procedures are shown for both the multi-target Metro Mirror - Global Mirror session type as well as the Metro Global Mirror cascaded session type.
Unplanned outage of local (H1) with production move to remote (H3 GM secondary)
In this scenario, there is an unplanned outage for Site 1 (H1). Site 2, however, does not have the resources to run production, so production will be moved to Site 3 during the outage at Site 1. When the outage is complete, production can then be moved back to Site 1 and resume the full three-site configuration.
