HMC storage system connection generates error IWNH1650E or Unknown status

These errors can occur when Copy Services Manager is installed on a server that runs on a Windows operating system.

Problem

This condition is caused by a problem with 32-bit to 64-bit address-conversion routines and can occur in the following situations:
  • When you try to add an HMC connection. The error message IWNH1650E is returned with the reason code -1, which specifies an unknown connection state.
  • When Copy Services Manager tries to reconnect to an existing HMC storage system connection. The storage system connection status is shown as Unknown.
