Unplanned outage of remote (H3 GM secondary)

In this scenario, an unplanned outage occurs on Site 3 (H3). Procedures are shown for both the multi-target Metro Mirror - Global Mirror session type as well as the Metro Global Mirror cascaded session type.

About this task

Follow these steps to carry out this scenario.

Procedure for Multi Target Metro Mirror - Global Mirror session type

Procedure

  1. Start H1->H2 H1->H3

    Issue this command to begin multi-target replication when the production I/O is running on H1. When the session is in a Prepared state, both sites 2 and 3 will have a consistent copy of the data.

    A failure of the remote site (H3) causes the session state to go from Prepared to Suspended (Partial)l, with an error message that the connection to the H3 box has been lost.

    Note: When the remote site (H3) is repaired and ready to return to the configuration, the session remains Suspended (Partial) and recoverable until step 2 is completed.
  2. Failover H3

    This command is optional and can be performed if Site 3 is still accessible. It will failover the relationships between Site 1 and Site 3 so that the volumes at Site 3 will allow writes. Production I/O can continue on H1. Testing can be done on the volumes at Site 3 without affecting production. When ready to return to a full three site configuration continue to the next step.

  3. Start H1->H2 H1->H3

    Issue this command only when the remote site (H3) is repaired and ready to return to the configuration. With this command, your session returns to the original configuration by starting the Global Mirror portion back up.
