July 5, 2022 | All HSMs with CCA | NIST algorithm standardization announcement

On July 5,2022, NIST announced the selected algorithms for the Post Quantum Cryptography Standardization project. These included 4 algorithms that IBM employees and affiliates contributed to:
  • CRYSTALS-Dilithium
  • FALCON
  • Sphincs+ (digital signature)
  • CRYSTALS-KYBER (key-establishment)
Please join us in celebrating the standardization of all the algorithms as the culmination of years of work by the global cryptography community. Note further that the IBM Crypto Express8S (CEX8S) for IBM Z16 includes implementations of the CRYSTALS-Dilithium and CRYSTALS-KYBER algorithms, while the IBM Crypto Express7S (CEX7S) for IBM Z16 and IBM Z15 includes CRYSTALS-Dilithium support. The CEX7S is also known as the IBM 4769 Cryptographic Coprocessor for IBM POWER/Cognitive, IBM I and x86.

June 24, 2022 | HSM CEX7S / 4769 | PCI-HSM certification

On June 24, 2022, the IBM 4769 Cryptographic Coprocessor for IBM POWER/Cognitive, IBM I and x86 achieved PCI-HSM certification for firmware level 7.3.Xc, where the ‘X’ is a wildcard value for the build/maintenance version, and the ‘c’ indicates the firmware was designed for PCI-HSM certification.
