Possible fault tolerance with constant storage efficiency
The following figure shows a graph of Fault Tolerance when the system's Storage Overhead is held constant at 50%. This means the system total raw capacity is never greater than 50% beyond the total usable capacity.

To achieve a good storage efficiency with an IDA width of 9, the system's fault tolerance is quite low at 3. That is because this system corresponds to a "6-of-9" IDA Configuration. That is, IDA Width is 9, and Threshold is 6. However, as IDA Width increases and the storage overhead is held constant at 50%, the fault tolerance rapidly increases. At the right-edge of the graph the IDA Configuration is a 30-of-45. This system still has the storage overhead of 50%, yet the system can now tolerate up to 15 node outages and destructions. This graph shows how the ability to use higher IDA Widths is critical to achieve high fault tolerance in an efficient system.
