Vault capacity units

All Cloud Object Storage Manager storage capacity references can be displayed in either SI (default) or IEC units.

Cloud Object Storage Manager application references to storage capacity are shown in SI units [Terabytes (TB)] by default. They can be quickly changed to IEC units [Tebibytes (TiB)] by changing preferences on the ADMINISTRATION - Preference menu.

IBM is changing the paradigm for digital content storage and delivering a significantly more efficient method for storing and distributing information. To that end, we provide capacity and utilization information in the more accurate IEC units or the traditional SI estimates (base 10) used by most other storage vendors.

Use of IEC defined units is endorsed by IEEE (previously Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and CIPM (International Committee for Weights and Measures) in contexts where use of a binary prefix makes sense to protect the unambiguous decimal meaning of the "SI" prefix. IEC values are consistent with the capacities reported by software operating systems (binary, base 2), and are defined by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standard.
