Replacing external front components

Procedure to replace a drive in the operating system/data RAID array.

Before you begin

In the Manager 3105 Appliance, the OS/data drives are in a RAID 5 configuration. This allows for one drive failure with no loss of data. Replacing a failed drive will automatically start the RAID rebuilding process.

Procedure

  1. Locate the drive by location label or the solid amber failure LED.
  2. Press the release button on the drive carrier.
This action extends the carrier handle, as shown in the following figure.

  3. Pull the drive carrier out of the chassis by using the handle.
  4. Make sure that the drive carrier latch on the new drive is open.
  5. Push the drive carrier with the new HDD into the chassis until significant resistance is encountered.
  6. Re-close the latch to fully seat the drive carrier into the chassis.
  7. The RAID array will automatically rebuild itself.
While the array is rebuilding, an amber LED will blink. The LED will turn off when the rebuilding is complete.
