Creating a site

To change or delete an existing site, click the Configure tab and then click Sites in the left navigation panel. Choose a site and click Change.

About this task

Each device in the system must be linked to a physical site to facilitate management. At least one site must be set up before any device can be added so that device can be associated with that site. Events and other management information indicate site affiliation when appropriate.

Procedure

  1. Click the Monitor tab.
  2. Click System in the left navigation panel.
  3. In the Summary section, click Create Site.
  4. Enter the Site Name.
Each Site must be uniquely named (50 characters max); this name is used by the manager for all references to this Site.
  5. Optional: Enter an Abbreviation.
An optional Abbreviation (12 characters max) can also be entered. The Abbreviation defaults to the first 12 characters of the Site name, but can be changed. For long site names (exceeding 12 characters), the Abbreviation is used.
  6. Optional: Enter the Company Name, Address, and Telephone information.
  7. Optional: Enter the Longitude and Latitude for this Site.

Longitude and Latitude are entered in the decimal format beginning with an optional negative sign, 1 - 3 digits, a decimal point (period), and then 1 - 6 digits.

    Examples - 65.5375, -87.644347, 100.6, 41.886734, and so on.

To convert a location from the DMS (Degrees Minutes Seconds) or sexagesimal format, use this equation: Decimal Degrees = Degrees + Minutes/60 + Seconds/3600. Numerous resources and conversion utilities are available on the web for calculating this information for a location.

This information is needed for populating a site map in a future release.

What to do next

Attention: Any time a device is added or a vault, site, cabinet, or an administration configuration is changed, the Manager device must be backed up by navigating to Settings > Operations > Backup Manually . Permanent data loss can occur if the Manager database becomes corrupted. Periodic backups must also be performed to preserve historical statistics and log information. For details, click the Settings tab, and navigate to Operations > Backup Configuration.
