The following information covers the Storage Pool workflow.

When a Storage Pool is expanded with a new Device Set, the expected location of a subset of Slices changes due to the weighting of each set. The system determines which Slices need to be moved, or reallocated, to the new nodes. Slices are reallocated peer-to-peer between Slicestor® Nodes. Slices are not reconstituted first into objects then recalculated and sliced. Only those Slices for which the Algorithm calculates a new location are reallocated.

All reallocation occurs without impacting data availability.

When performing a device set replacement or resize, in addition to expansion, the system is in a reallocation state.
