Decreasing storage pool width

The Storage Pool Width can be decreased.

About this task

Each device in the system must be linked to a physical site to facilitate management. At least one site must be set up before any device can be added so that device can be associated with that site. Events and other management information indicate site affiliation when appropriate.

Procedure

  1. Select the specified number of Slicestor devices to be removed to decrease the width of this storage pool.
  2. Click Save.
    The width of all vaults on this storage pool decrease; the threshold does not change. The removed devices can be reimaged and repurposed.

What to do next

All the Slicestor devices that are associated with this Storage Pool, including the Accesser devices, must be restarted. The Slicestor devices MUST be restarted before the Accesser devices. Vault size calculations might fluctuate after reduction due to averaging of the remaining Slicestor devices, but will return to the original value.

Note: Detailed procedures must be performed by IBM Support staff to execute this procedure. For example, the write threshold (WT) and alert level (AL) are also reduced. The shrink procedure requires to first increase WT and AL for all vaults in that pool, run a vault health check, and then reduce the pool width, vault widths, WT, and AL.
