Overview

Regular maintenance procedures such as disk and appliance replacement differ between types (Manager, Accesser® Appliance, Slicestor® Appliance, or Fileserver pools). Disk replacement procedures for each one are described.

Attention: Disk replacement should be performed with a drive that is acquired by IBM. Using an alternative drive voids the support warranty and can potentially corrupt the data on the system.

All appliances contain an operating system disk. Slicestor® Appliance can have a separate operating system disk or the operating system that is stored on a partition of the first data disk.

Note: Appliance operating system disk failures incur appliance downtime. The requirements for replacing operating system disks are as follows.
  • Recovery USB media to reinstall operating system.
  • Network access to the Manager application.
  • At least as much capacity on the replacement disk as the failed disk.
