Configure Manager backups

The backup location and schedule must be configured for automatic backups. Automatic backup requires the use of the local directory (/var/lib/dsnet-manager/backups), remote SFTP server, S3 bucket, or a remote FTP server. Click Backup Configuration to enter these settings.

If backups are configured to point to a remote SFTP server, an SSH key pair will be generated. The available key type algorithms for generating this key pair are ED25519, ECDSA, and RSA. ED25519 is recommended but other algorithms are supported if the FTP server cannot support ED25519.

In systems with multiple Manager devices, the UUID of the Manager device is included in the name of the backup file saved in /var/lib/dsnet-manager/backups or sent to the configured server. Manual backups only apply to the Manager device on which you are currently logged in. Scheduled backups apply to both Manager devices. For example, if an automatic backup schedule is configured, then both the Manager devices generate a backup at the same time. The backups are saved to the currently configured backup destination.

Note: You can also perform a manual backup.
Note:

This feature works with any HTTPS endpoint using a certificate either issued by a well-known authority or internal, private, or self-signed certificates. This feature is intended to be used for backing up the Manager to the IBM public cloud or any other equivalent that provides a certificate issued by a well-known CA or internal, private, or self-signed certificates.
