Using the Manager UI, the default Name Index Format can be configured at the global
system level as well as for configuring the index version at the storage pool level and while
creating new standard vaults and mirrors.
About this task
Note: To use the benefits of Name Index Format 4 for preexisting vaults created with Name Index
Version 2, including the benefits of being able to use data lifecycle management functionality, use
the existing data migration service feature to migrate the existing data to a new vault with Name
Index Version 4.
If a vault is created using Name Index Format 4 and the performance of the system
is low, use the data migration service feature to migrate data to a new vault using Name Index
Version 2.
-
At the global system level, set the Name Index Format to be either Version 2
or Version 4 on the Configure page.
When any new vaults are created with the Name Index Enabled feature, the configured global
default for Index Version will be used, provided the Index Version is not overridden by the setting
at the storage pool or at the vault.
- Optionally, configure a different Name Index Format at an individual
storage pool and override the global system setting for Default Name Index Format using either the
New Create Storage Pool page or the Edit:
StoragePoolName page.
The Name Index Format Default for the Storage Pool
will override the global default Name Index Format. All new vaults created on this storage pool with
Name Index enabled, will inherit this Name Index Format Setting from the storage pool if you do not
set a specific Name Index Format
- Optionally, set the Name Index Format at the time of standard vault
creation. The specified Name Index Format for the standard vault will override the global default
and storage pool settings for Name Index Format. Specify the Name Index Format
using the Advanced Index Settings using the Create New Standard Vault
page:
- Go to Create New Standard Vault>Advanced Index
Settings and select Name Index Enabled,
- Set Name Index Format to either Version 2 or
Version 4
The Name Index Format for the vault overrides the Name Index Format configured for
the storage pool and the global configuration.
Important: The Name Index Format cannot be updated once standard vaults are created.
This limitation applies to all preexisting vaults created on prior releases as well as new vaults
created on the current release.
- Repeat the previous step, similarly, to configure the Name Index
Version for a mirror using the Create New Standard Mirror
page.
New mirrors that are configured using a seed vault will automatically set the
Name Index Enabled and Name Index Format settings for the
mirror, based on the settings of the seed vault.
