Vault profile definitions
- The Physical Width
- The number of drives per Slicestor
- The number of sites the Device Set is deployed across
- Whether the vault is mirrored or not
- The vault optimization
The IDA configurations are displayed using the forward-slash ("/") notation. This displays Width,
Threshold, Write Threshold, and Alert Level respectively, separated by forward slashes. For example,
a vault that had a Width of 36, a Threshold of 20, a Write Threshold of 23, and an Alert Level of 25
would appear as 36/20/23/25.
The following tables also display two metrics which can be used to relatively gauge the system's storage efficiency and IOPS capacity. They are Expansion Factor and Read Penalty. The lower each of these metrics is, the better. The lower the Expansion Factor, the less storage overhead the system has and the more usable storage capacity it will provide. The Read Penalty indicates how many drives must be contacted to service any read. It corresponds to Threshold. The lower the Read Penalty, the higher the number of I/O operations per unit of time the system can handle before it would encounter a "seek bottleneck". Thus, in certain use cases, a low Read Penalty can result in greater performance.
