Add new storage resources to a storage pool
Expanding a storage pool starts with one original device set.
In the figure below, a storage pool with one device set and a storage capacity of 10 PB adds one device set with 10 PB of capacity. It changes the algorithm that determines where the data is stored, triggering a reallocation. The IBM Cloud Object Storage Slicestor® nodes in each original Device Set reallocate a fraction of their slices directly to Slicestor® Nodes within the added Device Set. The fraction of slices each Slicestor® Node reallocates is equal to the ratio of the added storage that is compared to the new total of storage. In this case, the ratio equals [10 PB / 20 PB] or 1/2.
