Before you can run IBM® Controller, you must
configure a Controller database connection. IBM Controller
databases must be created using Microsoft SQL
Server.
If you are installing IBM Controller for the first time,
or if you do not want to connect to an existing Controller database, you can create a database
connection to an empty Controller database.
Before you begin
If you want to create a connection to an existing Controller database, we recommend that you
create a backup of your database before you create the Controller data source connection. This is
because the Controller Database Conversion Utility, which runs against the database during the data
source connection process, updates the database tables for use with IBM Controller.
Procedure
- From the Start menu, start Controller
Configuration.
If the product is installed in the Program Files directory, and the User Account Control (UAC) is
turned on, IBM Controller Configuration is identified as an
administrative application; therefore, you must run it with elevated administrative privileges. To
properly save the configuration settings, the UAC prompts for credentials if you are using a
standard account.
- In the Explorer window, click Database
Connections, and then click File >
New.
- In the Name box, type a name for the database
connection.
- In the Provider box, type the name of the database provider.
To obtain the database provider information, see the SQL Server documentation.
- You can configure the authentication using either SQL Server native or integrated. Follow
the instructions below based on your preferred method:
Native authentication
- In the User ID and Password fields, enter the
username and password for the Controller database.
- Ensure that the Integrated authentication field is set to
False.
Integrated authentication
- Set the value of the Integrated authentication field to
True.
- You do not need to provide a username or password in the User ID and
Password fields.
- In the Initial catalog box, type the Controller database
name.
- In the Data source box, type the database server computer
name.
- Click File > Save.
- In the Explorer window, expand Database
Connections.
- Select the database you want to upgrade.
- Click Actions > Run.
- If this is an empty Controller database, in the Database Conversion
Utility window, click Create Db.
The Database Conversion Utility initializes the database.
Note: When you create a new database, by default the database version is 813. You then
need to perform database upgrade to the latest version of IBM
Controller.
- In the Database Conversion Utility dialog box, click
Connect and then click Upgrade.
The Database Conversion Utility upgrades the existing database.
- Click Close.
- From the Actions menu, click Check.
If the database connection validation fails, review the database connection properties and fix
any errors.
- From the File menu, click Save.
