Backup and restore the database

This feature allows you to backup and restore the databases by yourself using IBM® Controller Web. You can also create a manual backup, restore a backup, or delete a backup.

Important: This feature is available only for IBM Controller Cloud.

Before you begin

Backup and restore access permission check
  1. The right access can be defined in Controller Classic under Maintain Menu > Rights > Security group.
  2. A new Backup and Restore menu item is added under Controller Web.
  3. The access right can either be Normal or Not available. If you select Not available, the user with that specific security group will not be able to access Backup and Restore.
Note: Refer documentation for creating new security Group with restriction Create Security Groups.

If you want to disable Backup and Restore access, you must enable security flag as mentioned below from Controller Classic.

  1. Navigate to Maintain Menu > Rights > User.
  2. Check the Security System Enabled check-box.
  3. Select User for which Backup and Restore access need to be restricted.
  4. Move to Limitations tab.

  5. Select the relevant menu group for which the Backup and Restore access is restricted. For more information, see Create Security Groups.
  6. Save the changes and close Controller Classic application.

Create a manual backup

You can create a manual backup. To create a manual backup:
  1. Log in to the Controller Web.
  2. On the Controller Web dashboard, select Administration.
  3. Select the Database tile. The Databases page opens.
  4. On the Databases page, click the database that you want to backup. The Backup page opens.
  5. On the Backup page, click Create backup. The Create backup window opens.
  6. Enter the name of the backup and click Create backup.
  7. Once the backup success message is displayed, click the refresh table option to view the latest status update of the backup. After the backup process is successfully completed the backup is listed in the backup table.

Restore a backup

You can restore a backup. To restore a backup:
  1. Log in to the Controller Web.
  2. On the Controller Web dashboard, select Administration.
  3. Select the Database tile. The Databases page opens.
  4. On the Databases page, click the required database. The Backup page opens.
  5. On the Backup page, select the backup that you want to restore. Click the Action menu and select Restore. The Restore window opens.
  6. On the Restore window, select the database from the dropdown and check the confirmation message.
  7. Click Restore.
  8. Open the Databases page. Once the restore process is successfully completed, click the refresh table option. The restore is listed in the Databases page.

Delete a backup

You can delete a backup. To delete a backup:
  1. Log in to the Controller Web.
  2. On the Controller Web dashboard, select Administration.
  3. Select the Database tile. The Databases page opens.
  4. On the Databases page, click the required database. The Backup page opens.
  5. On the Backup page, select the backup that you want to delete. Click the Action menu and select Delete. The Delete window opens.
  6. On the Delete window, select the database from the dropdown and click Delete.
