What's new in 10.4.2 FP1

New features in version 10.4.2 FP1 improve the usability of Cognos Controller.

Update for 10.4.2.1 IF 1

32-bit Excel support (on 64-bit OS), missing from 10.4.2 FP1, is re-introduced in 10.4.2.1 IF1.

Cognos Controller classic

The following are new for Cognos Controller classic.

New prerequisite application: WebView2 Runtime

Before you install Cognos Controller 10.4.2 FP1, you must download and install the Microsoft WebView2 Runtime. This application provides an embedded browser that displays context-sensitive help, login windows, and reports. WebView2 Runtime is now required because Cognos Controller documentation no longer supports Microsoft Internet Explorer.

For more information, see Install and configure WebView2 Runtime.

Delete the workarea folder before you upgrade to FP1

Before you install FP1, you must delete all instances of the workarea folder from your existing Controller installation.

For details, see step 2 in Installing fix packs.

Cognos Controller Web

The following new features are available in Controller Web:

Standalone on-Cloud installer for the Microsoft Excel link

You can download a standalone Excel link that is not integrated with the Controller rich client.

If you are a new Controller on Cloud user, the standalone Excel link allows you to use Microsoft Excel with Controller Web and with other systems.

If you are an existing on Cloud user with an Excel link, you already have the Controller rich client installed. You may want to keep using your existing Excel link to access the combined features of the rich client and Excel. However, if you only want to use Excel and don't require the rich client, you can switch to the new standalone Excel link. Before doing so, you must uninstall your existing Excel link and rich client.

For more information, see Installing the standalone Excel link.

Filters on cells in standard forms

In a standard form, you can now filter a selected column on the following:

  • cells with values
  • cells with no values
  • all cells

For more information, see Filtering on cells in a standard form.

Freeze panes in free forms

In Controller Web, you can now view a fixed scroll area, also known as a freeze pane, when you populate a free form. This matches the functionality already available in Controller Classic.

Note: The fixed scroll area must first be defined by editing in the Excel link the Layout Options > Fixed Scroll Area setting.

For more information, see Freeze_panes.

Enter a comment directly in a comment cell in free forms
In a free form, you can enter a comment directly in a comment cell that is generated by the fputComment function. Prior to release 10.4.2 FP1, you had to edit the comment in a separate comment window associated with the comment cell.

For more information, see Comments.

Edit the investment register

For investment accounts, you can now edit the content in the sub-window Data Entry-Shareholdings and Investments in Group Companies. Previously, in Controller Web, you could not update investment figures in Controller Web that were previously entered in Controller Classic or add/delete entries.

For more information, see Entering values in investment accounts.

Comments per line in an intercompany account

When you are going in an intercompany sub-window, you can now add a comment for any line. Previously, you could add only a general comment that applied to all lines.

For more information, see Step 5 in Enter reported values.

Filter on values in the intercompany reconciliation tab

You can filter the intercompany differences on values that are higher than the value that you specify.

For more information, see Intercompany reconciliation.

Intercompany reconciliation and differences based on transaction currency

You can now show the differences in transaction currency for intercompany accounts of type J.

For more information, see Intercompany reconciliation.

Support for Microsoft Chromium Edge

Controller Web now supports the Microsoft Chromium Edge browser.

Known issues

This section describes known issues found in Cognos Controller 10.4.2 FP1.

Obsolete vendor.js files remain after you install the fix pack

After you install Cognos Controller 10.4.2 FP1, a security scan may falsely indicate that you have a security vulnerability. This scan result is caused by the presence of obsolete vendor.js files that contain references to bootstrap v3.3.6. Bootstrap v3.3.6 was an old application that is no longer installed with Cognos Controller due to a security vulnerability.

Important: The obsolete vendor.js files on your computer are NOT a security vulnerability. They merely contain references to the old bootstrap v3.3.6 application. The bootstrap v3.3.6 application itself is not present in your Cognos Controller 10.4.2 FP1 installation.
Solution
If you wish to remove the obsolete vendor.js files from your computer, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the folder C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\ccr_64\frontend\dist
  2. Open the file index.html file in a text editor.
  3. Search for the string vendor.

A file named vendor.number.js is returned. Note the number value.

  4. In the dist folder, delete all instances of vendor.number.js, except for the instance that you identified in step 3.
