Extended dimensions 1-4

Extended dimensions are dimensions that are defined by users. When IBM Cognos Financial Analysis Publisher transforms extended dimensions 1-4, the dimension names that are used in the source relational database are also used in the cube.

In the source, values are stored on aggregated levels in the hierarchies. It is not possible to store values in the same way in the target. Therefore, in the target cube, when the data is transformed, aggregation nodes are added.

In the target, an extended dimension is built according to the following conventions:

  • All members in the source become leaf members in the target, and use the same code.
  • All members that are aggregation members in the source are also created as separate aggregation nodes in the target.

Members in the source are transformed to leaf members in the target. Aggregation members in the source are created as aggregation nodes in the target.
