Fixing import errors

When you import a file, IBM® Cognos Controller verifies the data in imported file against the import specification. In the Review error tab, you can fix mapping errors.

About this task

There are two types of errors:
mapping
Mapping errors occur when there are values missing from the lookup table used in the import specification. You can fix these errors immediately by editing the lookup table from within the Review errors tab.
other
Other errors are related to the import specification, the data, the account, or Cognos Controller settings. These errors require investigation and correction in the imported file or the import specification. You can export errors to Excel by clicking the Export errors button.
Note: You can import the file without fixing the errors. The lines that have errors will not be imported.

Procedure

Import the file without fixing errors

  1. If you want to import the file without fixing the errors, click Next.
Only the lines that don't have errors are imported into Cognos Controller.

Fix mapping errors

  1. If there are errors displayed in the Mapping errors section and you want to fix them, do the following steps:
    1. Point to the highlighted section of a row.
An error message related to the lookup map displays.
    2. Click the three dots icon beside the highlighted section.
      The Update mapping window opens.
    3. Choose a Destination and Change sign values, and then click Save.
The lookup table that is associated with the import specification used to import the file is updated with the mapping.
    4. Click Save and update.
Note: Fixing one mapping error can resolve more than one error in the data file.
The Review error window refreshes. If you corrected all of the mapping errors, the Mapping errors section in the Review errors section is empty.

Fix other errors

  1. The errors displayed in the Other errors section have different causes. If you want to fix them, you must investigate and fix each error type separately. Do the following steps:
    1. Point to the highlighted section of a row.
An error message related to the lookup map displays.
    2. Click Export data to export the errors to a file.
Use the detailed error messages to help you understand and fix the errors in the import specification, the data in the file, or a Controller configuration problem.
